Ultrasound technology has improved exponentially with the advent of cutting edge hand held ultrasound devices which have replaced the large bulky machines in most hospitals in the United States. Our foundation saw the benefits of using this new hand held devices to transform the treatment provided in Accident and Emergency Rooms in Jamaica. The idea to bring these devices and implement an ongoing support training program was conceptualized in collaboration with the Jacobi Emergency Ultrasound Division, North Central Bronx Hospitals. The first 23 devices were purchased by our Partners at the American Friends of Jamaica and the (JHUP) initiative was launched in January 2023. This program will allow physicians in Jamaica to provide convenient bedside ultrasound, faster diagnosis and reduce risk of serious complications and deaths.
